Welcome to the 28th Judicial District Bar!

We are one of the most active, congenial Bars in the state, with over 700 members.  Some of the many benefits of Bar membership include our monthly bar lunches, where we have an opportunity to socialize and network with each other and hear relevant programs and CLEs.  Our bar provides approximately 12 hours of free or reduced cost CLE a year, including CLE on mental health.  Our members have access to 3 free anonymous therapy sessions through the Bar Cares program, which provides counseling for matters such as depression, anxiety, family issues, substance abuse and burn-out.  We also sponsor a number of special events throughout the year, including a spring picnic, holiday party, Tourists baseball game and more.  Our Bar also has a mentorship program, connecting newer attorneys with seasoned practitioners, who can provide a wealth of advice, personally and professionally.

We are all busy with families and work, but everyone is encouraged to get involved with the Bar in some way.  There are opportunities to serve on Bar committees, volunteer with Pisgah Legal Services, through its Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyers (MAVL) program, or attend lunches and CLEs with your colleagues.

For members under 37 years of age and who are within their first five years of practice in North Carolina, you are encouraged to participate in the Young Lawyers Division (the YLD) and consider serving on the YLD Committee.  The committee facilitates networking and camaraderie through service projects, pro bono activities and social events.

We are fortunate to live in Western North Carolina, one of the most beautiful, historic and fastest-growing areas in the state.  And we are equally fortunate to be able to practice in one of the most congenial, professional bars in the state.

My door is always open and I encourage you to share your ideas with me on how we can better serve you and our community.  Please feel free to contact me or our always-helpful Bar Administrator, Lisa-Gaye Hall, if you have any questions at all.
