Child Support Services Wins Honor

Buncombe County Child Support Services ranked third in the State as of the end of June 2018 in effectiveness and efficiency.

In 2014, the North Carolina General Assembly’s Program Evaluation Division ranked the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the 100 county child support programs with regard to five nationally-utilized performance measurements: current support collection rate, payment on accounts that are past due, rate of paternity establishment, percentage of cases under order, and cost effectiveness. Using this same methodology, the Buncombe County Child Support Services ranked third in the State as of the end of June 2018.

To our knowledge, no urban county has ever cracked the top five in the rankings before.

Of the two counties ahead of Buncombe, one is Polk County, which is also operated by Veritas HHS, the private company which staffs the Buncombe Child Support Services office.

The attorney for both Buncombe and Polk County Child Support Services is Barry L. Master, who is one of eleven nominees this year for North Carolina Child Support Employee of the year. The winners of this award will be announced at the 34th annual North Carolina Child Support and Attorneys’ Conference at the Renaissance Hotel in Asheville August 22-24. Barry is also a co-presenter for two of the six CLE programs at that Conference.
