Merithew Law, PLLC has opened up a new Colorado branch of the Firm.  Last week Forrest Merithew became a Colorado licensed attorney and Merithew Law has opened a Western States branch of its practice in Fort Collins, CO.  The Firm now has offices in Asheville, NC and Fort Collins, CO.

Forrest is now licensed in California, North Carolina, and Colorado, while Jake Farrar, who manages the Firm’s Asheville office, is licensed in North Carolina and California.  Merithew Law provides comprehensive and cost-effective general counsel services and legal business support and solutions to a wide range of commercial and creative endeavors.

Seeking Legal Assistant

Sole practitioner North of Asheville seeks an experienced real estate legal assistant. The candidate must have experience with real estate closings in a law office. The position will require responsibility for providing a comprehensive range of secretarial support, communicating with clients/lenders/real estate agents, managing appointment calendar, and assisting the attorney in meeting the many deadlines associated with real estate closings.

Candidate must be professional, responsible, extremely detail oriented and possess excellent written and oral communication skills as well as computer skills. Do not apply unless you are seeking a long-term position. Candidate must excel at multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing work. We are looking for someone who has a professional and warm demeanor, and can be patient and understanding even with clients who may be difficult.

Must be proficient with typing/word processing and use of standard office equipment. Experience with WordPerfect, Alta-Star, Quickbooks, Timeslips, Microsoft Office, or eCopy is a plus.

Pisgah Legal Services’ Housing Program Director Ben Many will provide a CLE workshop on various issues related to assisting tenants of rental housing, including evictions, rent abatement, securing repairs, security deposit return, harassment or abuse, tenants breaking a lease, recovery of tenant property, and liability related to roommates. Participants will receive 2 hours of CLE credit. The CLE is free to any attorney who agrees to take two pro bono cases through the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer Program or to join the Pro Bono Hotline team. CLE is $50 for attorneys who do not wish to volunteer. Lunch provided with $10 charge.
